Services for Marvin Mooney will be held at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha on Wednesday, September 25, at 10:30 a.m. with burial in the Nemaha Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, with family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Walter Marvin Mooney, age 92, of Alta, died at Wel-Life on September 22, following a lengthy illness.
Marvin was born December 27, 1909, north of Nemaha, the son of Harry and Daisy (Boots) Mooney. He was baptized in 1911 and became a member of the Methodist Church in 1922. He attended Nemaha school graduating in 1928.
On January 30, 1929, he married Ruth Parker at the Nemaha Methodist parsonage. To this union four children were born, Dale, Donna, Dick and Damon. He farmed north of Nemaha all of his life.
Marvin served as an official board member and trustee of the Methodist Church. He served on the Nemaha school board for nine years, 1948-1957, and was president during that time. He also served on the Nemaha town council and was a member of the Nemaha Booster Club. His great loves were his family, farming, visits to the mill, playing cards, sports and he loved the Hawkeyes. He enjoyed visits from his children, grandchildren and friends. The Farmall Promenade became a great joy for him, he loved to watch them practice and enjoyed it much more when he could see them perform.
Marvin and Ruth moved from their home in Nemaha, January 3, to live at Wel-Life at Alta. They had lived in the Nemaha Community for 73 years.
He is survived by his wife Ruth of Alta; sons, Dale Mooney and his wife Beverly of Sac City, Dick Mooney and his wife June of Storm Lake, Damon Mooney and his wife Pamela of Nemaha; daughter, Donna Novak and her husband Vic of McAllen, TX. Other survivors include grandchildren and great grandchildren, Joan and Bob Holt and Brooke of Fremont, NE; Pat and Julia Mooney, Elizabeth and Mary Kate of Storm Lake; Vicki and Jon Russell, Michael and Ryan of Cedar Rapids; Pamela and Steve Berg, Andy and Amy of Storm Lake; Marc and Julie Mooney, Benjamin and Samuel of George; Lori Mooney of Des Moines; sister, Velma Peterson of Storm Lake; sister-in-law, Nadine Cavanaugh of Omaha; step sister-in-law, Ruth Mohr of Storm Lake and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
His parents and granddaughter, Brenda Renee Mooney, preceded Marvin in death.
