Longtime hospital trustee withdraws from election

Thursday, September 12, 2002

Candidate faces objection

The normally calm ballot for the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees has seen some action this week, with a longtime board member choosing to withdraw her nomination papers, and a challenge filed against the candidacy of a new- comer hoping to join the board.

Board veteran Marcia Schaller had filed her nomination papers to seek another six-year term, but has sent a letter to Commission of Elections Karen Strawn withdrawing her candidacy. Strawn said that no reason was given for the decision. Current board member Mary Nehring also is not seeking re-election as her term comes to an end.

That leaves candidates Edean Murray and Kim Martin, both of Storm Lake, unopposed for the two open seats on the fall general election ballot.
