SLHS plans for Homecoming

Tuesday, September 10, 2002

Number of events planned for next week

Homecoming 2002 festivities have been scheduled for the week of September 16-20, culminating with the varsity football game against the Estherville-Lincoln Central Midgets and the after-game Homecoming Dance on Friday, Sept. 20.

The SLHS Student Council has been working even before the start of school on details and plans for a fun week of activities within and outside the school day from special dress days and class competitions to initial plans for the Homecoming Parade and Dance.

Several public activities will be associated with Homecoming 2002. The annual Coronation of the King and Queen is at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night, Sept. 19, followed by the all-community pep rally in the High School Gymnasium. The Homecoming Parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, and move through downtown Storm Lake.

Action at the Stadium gets underway with an Athletic Booster Club tailgate supper at 6 p.m. and face-painting by the Art Club members. The gridiron contest against ELC will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. followed by the Alumni/Student Homecoming Dance in the Student Center until 12:30 a.m.

Other athletic events during the 2002 Homecoming Week include:

* Monday, Sept. 16 - 10th football at home with Carroll Kuemper beginning at 5 p.m. and volleyball at home against Spirit Lake at 5:30 p.m.

* Tuesday, Sept. 17 - Storm Lake Tornado Cross Country Invitational at Storm Lake's Municipal Golf Course beginning at 5 p.m. and the Annual Powder Puff Football Game at 8 p.m. in Tornado Stadium.

* Wednesday, Sept. 18 - Volleyball at Hull-Western Christian beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Parents and interested patrons are encouraged to get involved throughout the week. Many will be asked to assist with float-building projects, provide cars, trucks, and drivers for the parade and serve snacks at the dance. Those willing to help with some aspect of the festivities may call the Storm Lake High School at 732-8065.
