Tear-filled eyes were evident for both those in fatigues and those staying behind. Family and friends wished 61 loved ones good-bye Saturday morning as members of the 1st Battalion, 194th Field Artillery left to answer the call of a nation.
A large crowd gathered in front of the Storm Lake Armory as the sun rose, and most stayed until the last truck of the convoy rolled out for a journey to Camp Dodge before moving on to Fort Knox in Kentucky.
As citizen-soldiers prepare to face their challenges, so do those left behind.
