Memorial services for James R. "Jim" Lewis, 94, of Aurelia were held Sept., 5, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Jack Weida officiating.
Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia. Visitation was yesterday at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Jim died Monday, Sept. 2, at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee.
James Ray Lewis was born Aug. 1, 1908, the son of Leonard and Minnie (Miller) Lewis in Napa, Idaho. He attended school in Aurelia.
On Aug. 16, 1934, Jim married Alvina Irene Otten of Linn Grove at the Congregational Church Parsonage in Aurelia. He farmed in the Aurelia area for 44 years until moving into town in 1978.
Jim was a 56-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, and the Aurelia Dance Group. He enjoyed fishing and dancing, and he loved his family and farming.
Preceding Jim in death were his parents; two brothers, Dwight Lewis and Les Lewis; and two sisters, Ruby Lewis and Nellie Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Alvina Lewis of Aurelia, and four children, Mardell Bumann of Fayetteville, N.C., Jerry Lewis of Aurelia, Gary and his wife Bonnie Lewis of Aurelia, and Vicki and her husband Dean Regennitter of Aurelia.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Lynn and her husband Bob Bean of Fayetteville, N.C., Brian and his wife Emily Bumann of Davidson, N.C., Robert and his wife Joyce Lewis of Aurelia, Michael and his wife Jennifer Lewis of Osage, Chad and his wife Mindy Lewis of Larrabee, Carolyn and her husband Kordell Kruse of Aurelia, Kent and his wife Becky Lewis of Aurelia, Kris and her husband Brian Wegner of Muscatine, Dawn and her husband Thad Eason of Walnut, and Kayla Regennitter of Aurelia; 14 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
