City targets $6 million water plant

Thursday, September 5, 2002

SL Council votes 3-2 to proceed with project

Two Storm Lake City Council members voted against proceeding with a $6 million water treatment plant improvement project this week after at least one council member said he was afraid citizens would be stuck with the bill if either of the city's two meatpacking companies ever shut down.

"I'm not arguing the fact that this plan is a good one," said council member Denny Vaudt. "I'm only really bringing to issue who pays and when."

The improvement project includes a complete renovation of the existing treatment facility, as well as expansion of the city's well field. Water plant improvements include a new solids contact unit, filters and other equipment.
