Could use more numbers

The good news is that seven new swimmers are on the Storm Lake girls swimming roster.

The bad news is that coach Deb Blanchard needs about 6-10 more swimmers on the team in order to be competitive.

"Numbers are a concern," said Blanchard, whose team opens the season Sept. 3 at Sioux City North. "Many of the teams we'll be swimming against this year have over 30 swimmers. Injuries are always a concern. We tend to have shoulder problems. I have the team doing a dryland workout before getting into the water each day, so I hope that will keep them to a minimum."

Storm Lake returns 10 letterwinners. They include seniors Megan Bishop, Billie Blanchard, Natalie Gamache, Ashley Gustafson, Allison Niday and Angie Hohneke; juniors Jessica Anderson, Emily Holliday and Matty Richardson; and sophomore Kyla Anderson.
