William "Bill" George Roland, age 80, of Sioux Rapids, died Thursday, August 22, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following a short illness.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, August 24 at the Sliefert Funeral Chapel in Sioux Rapids. Inurnment will follow in Lone Tree Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
William "Bill" George Roland was born on April 15, 1922, in Ayrshire, the son of Paul and Josephine (Reardon) Roland.
Bill received a Purple Heart during World War II for his service in the United States Army.
On December 31st, 1947, Bill was married to Maxine Boese in Jackson, Minn. The couple made their home in Sioux Rapids.
Following his retirement Bill spent his summers at Lost Island Lake where he enjoyed golfing and fishing with his friends. In the winter months Bill liked to travel to visit his family. Bill was a member of the First United Church in Sioux Rapids, the American Legion and the V.F.W.
Bill is survived by his children: Ronnie Roland and his wife Virginia, Harrison, Ark., Becky Roland, Boone, Sherry Anderson and her husband Todd, Dayton; four grandchildren: Jason and Andrew Roland and Mark and Chad Anderson; two sisters, Phyllis Krukow, Dickens and Mary Jean Samuelson, Everett, Wash.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Josephine; his wife Maxine; a brother Robert "Zeke" Roland; a sister Arlene Logan.
