Shirley A. Currie, age 76, of Schaller died Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center following a long illness.
The funeral services were held on Friday at the Presbyterian Church in Schaller with the Reverend Ken Fells officiating. Burial was in the Eureka Township Cemetery at Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Schaller was in charge of the arrangements.
Shirley A. Rundle was born May 7, 1926 in rural Paton, the daughter of Thomas and Katherine (Wise) Rundle. She attended school in Paton and graduated from Paton High School in 1943.
Shirley completed the nursing training program at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. She began her nursing career as a member of the U.S. Nurses' Cadet Corps, serving until 1947. Shirley continued her dedication to nursing with nineteen years of service at the Buena Vista County Hospital and six years of service with Public Health Services.
On March 14, 1948 Shirley was married to Ray Currie in Paton, IA. She belonged to the Schaller Presbyterian Church, and was an active member and state officer of the Order of the Eastern Star organization. She was also a member of the Garden Club and the Clover Club.
Her family includes husband Ray Currie, Schaller; son Craig Currie and his wife Diane Malfeld, St. Paul, MN; daughter Deborah Bell and her husband Jim, Albuquerque, NM; granddaughters Kathryn and Julia Currie, St. Paul, MN; step-sister Mary Jane Blair, Paton; step-brothers James Rundle, Indianola, and Tim Rundle, Cobb, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Her parents and her step-mother Dorothy Adye preceded Shirley in death.
