Data no longer 'credible' under new standards
Though Storm Lake has been removed from the list of impaired waters by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, that doesn't mean the lake has overcome the turbidity and excessive nutrients that landed it on the list in the first place.
Due to a change in state law two years ago, a 1994 study that placed the lake on the 1998 impaired waters list is no longer considered "credible."
"Even though Storm Lake had a huge diagnostic study, that is now out of date according to Iowa law," said Ross Harrison of the Iowa DNR.
