350% increase angers special need riders in SL
About two dozen clients of Genesis Development, Spectra Healthcare and Lutheran Social Service met with the county board of supervisors to express their concerns about rate increases with the local taxi service, RIDES.
The purpose of the meeting was to gather input on shifting evening transportation service from every Tuesday and Thursday, to every other Tuesday and every Thursday, according to Dawn Mentzer, community services director for the county.
However, an underlying theme of the meeting was how fares for RIDES have increased some 350 percent - from $1 to $3.50 - for the special needs users of the service.
