Wallace N. "Wally" Bruns, age 75, of Storm Lake died Sunday, July 14, 2002 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Reverend Robert Schimmer officiating. Burial with full military honors was by Amvets Post #66 in Storm Lake Cemetery.
A Parish Scripture Service was held on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Foundation to be used for Home Health Care Services.
Wallace Nicholas Bruns was born August 3, 1926 in Breda,the son of Jerry and Gertrude (Steinkamp) Bruns. He graduated from Wall Lake High School with the class of 1944. In September of 1944 he entered the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was honorably discharged on July 10, 1946.
On August 2, 1948 he was married to Ardelle E. Taylor in Storm Lake. The couple has made their home in Early, Storm Lake, West Palm Beach and Fort Myers, FL.
Wally worked as a clerk at Paxton's Jewelry before working as a sales representative for Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. Later, he and Vince Loomis co-owned and operated the Northside Recreation and B & L Golf Car Sales.
Wally was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a life member of the American Legion. He had been active in Boy Scouts, Storm Lake Little League, the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce and he enjoyed family, golf and winters spent in Florida.
His family includes his wife, Ardelle, two sons, Terry L. Bruns and his wife, Cheryl of Spirit Lake and Timothy T. Bruns and his wife, Marcia of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, three grandchildren, Ryan Bruns, Becca Bruns and Taylor Bruns. Also surviving are a sister, Wynona Rohde and her husband, Lester of Wall Lake and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Gertrude (Steinkamp) Bruns, a brother Ardel Bruns, a sister-in-law, Alice Bruns and by two nieces, Robin and Carol Jo Bruns.
