Storm Lake JV team triumphs

Holly McDonough hit a solo home run to spark Odebolt-Arthur to a 5-2 victory over Alta in the final regular season game last Thursday night at Alta.

The Trojans led 3-2 when they scored two runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win. McDonough hit her home run in that frame.

Halley Cranston drove in two runs for Alta. Casi Flink had two hits and scored a run. Cranston, Jamie Snyder, Brooke Sliefert and Brooke Ryherd each had a hit.

Heidi Meyer suffered the loss. She allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out six batters in the game.

"We hit the ball well and got runners on base, we just couldn't drive them in," Alta coach Megan Cooper said. "Once again, our defensive errors hurt us. Our four seniors had great leadership this year. They really handled the transition well with new coaches."

Snyder, Ryherd, Ashlea Payne and Greta Lichtenberg were Alta's seniors this season.

Storm Lake Junior Varsity 5

Cherokee 0

Erin Anderson tossed a two-hit shutout, walked two and struck out three as Storm Lake blanked Cherokee in a junior varsity game last Thursday night in Storm Lake.

Storm Lake had four hits in the game. Jess Overturf had two hits and drove in three runs. Becca Anspach and C.J. Woodford each had a hit.

Storm Lake finished its season 13-6 overall and 10-6 in the Lakes Conference.

Lakeland 5

Albert City-Truesdale 4

Albert City-Truesdale was held to just three hits in suffering a setback to Lakeland last Thursday night at Albert City.

Lori Hogrefe delivered a two-run single. April Schuknecht and Krista Peterson each had a single.

Rachel Degner suffered the loss. She allowed six hits, no earned runs, walked six and struck out seven.

AC-T committed three errors in the game, but Lakeland made eight.

Galva-Holstein 10

Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn 0

Steph Phelps fired a one-hitter on the mound and went 2-for-3 at the plate as Galva-Holstein routed Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn last Thursday night at Galva.

Phelps walked one and struck out two over five innings. She also had a double and an RBI single.

Emily Frank had a triple and an RBI single, while Katie Phelps added an RBI single and a single.

Jessie Wurr drove in two runs and had two hits, while Claudia Schumacher had two hits and scored two runs. Stacey Todd delivered a two-run single and an RBI single and scored three runs.
