'Snow White' performance
SL library's summer finale
The Storm Lake Public Library is offering a free preschool Story Time sponsored by the Friends of the Library next Tuesday, July 16.
The session will begin at 10:30 a.m. and last 30 - 45 minutes. All preschoolers who are able to sit by themselves and are ages three through those going into kindergarten this fall are welcome. Moms or caregivers are welcome to sit in on the sessions. Any questions can be answered by calling the library at 732-8026.
This same Story Time will be presented to Gingerbread House preschoolers through the Book Bridges outreach program.
A finale for all ages sponsored by the Friends of the Library and Witter Gallery will be on August 2 at 2:30 p.m. Treasure Village Children's Theatre will perform "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." The play will be held in the Witter Gallery and admission is free.
Our stories in this session will focus on the theme "Splash" so be sure to have your children dress in old clothes or their swimsuits as they may get wet. A cut and tell story about going fishing will introduce the theme. Jan Brett's new book "Daisy Comes Home" is about Mei Mei the smallest of a group of six hens. The other always pick on her but after an adventure floating down the river in a basket, Mei Mei changes all that. If you have never experienced any of Jan Brett's books, you are in for a visual treat. Her stories are always interesting but it is her artwork that truly makes the story come alive.
"The Pig in the Pond" by Martin Waddell is great fun. Pigs don't swim or so it is said. But on the hottest of days, it's difficult for the pig on Neligan's farm to sit by the pond without feeling envious of the ducks and geese swimming in the cool water. Once pig jumps in the entire farm is in an uproar that ends with a surprising swimmer at the end.
"We'll All Go Sailing" by Maggee Spicer is about three sailors as they launch their boat onto varied colored seas and encounter an array of sea creatures. At the end of the voyage they make a book to record their discoveries.
"Five Little Monkeys Swinging in a Tree" is a familiar and favorite action rhyme that kids love to say and do. We'll use this to close out our story session and then heat outside, weather permitting, for a wet painting session.
