Memorial services for Shirley J. Nielsen, 76, of Fairfield, formerly of Sibley, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at the United Methodist Church in Sibley.
Graveside committal services for Shirley and Dr. Dale Nielsen will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia, with Lay Pastor Bruce Rapp officiating. There will be no visitation. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Shirley died Sunday, July 7, at the Park View Care Center in Fairfield.
Shirley Jean Robinson was born April 14, 1926, the daughter of Lee and Opal (Paulsen) Robinson at Aurelia. She attended school in Aurelia and graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1943. She attended business school in Sioux City for one year. On September 21, 1947, Shirley was united in marriage to Dale Lewis Nielsen in Storm Lake. Shirley worked in banking in Chicago for several years. In 1954 they moved to Sibley. In later years Shirley worked for Campbell's Soup in Worthington MN. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sibley, where she taught Sunday School for many years and served as treasurer for the united Methodist Woman. She was a member of several bridge clubs and was active in the Historical Society. Shirley enjoyed playing bridge, quilting, crocheting, and reading.
Preceding her is death were her parents, her husband Dale on April 9, 2002, and one daughter, Darcy Nielsen.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Sue Nielsen of Champaign, IL, Dee and her husband Jim Gerot of Ottumwa, and Jill Nielsen of St. Paul, MN; two granddaughters, Sara Gerot and Amanda Gerot both of Ottumwa; one great-granddaughter, Faith; one brother, Denny Robinson of Las Vegas, NV; four nephews, and other relatives and friends.
