Funeral services for Bernard H. Kurtz, 75, Luverne, MN, were be held Tuesday, July 9, at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend Dell B. Sanderson officiating.
Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Bernard died Friday, July 5, at Luverne Hospice Cottage. He was born May 19, 1927 in Steen, MN., to his parents William and Anna (Holst) Kurtz. He attended rural school in Clinton Township, Rock County, MN. and graduated from Luverne High School in 1943. Bernard served his nation during the Korean Conflict entering the United States Army in 1950.
Bernard was united in marriage to Marlene Kruger on February 28, 1951, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Luverne. He was stationed at Fort Riley in Kansas before going overseas to Korea. He received his honorable discharge from the Army in December of 1953. Bernard was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne and was past and current Commander of the American Legion in Luverne. He enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Bernard is survived by his children, Bruce (Joan) Kurtz, Storm Lake, Gary (Tami) Kurtz, Luverne, Mark (Cindy) Kurtz, Luverne, Brenda (Perry) Stickling, Luverne, Vickie (Stan) Steensma, Luverne, and his special friend Marge Smook, Magnolia; 11 grandchildren, Jake, Nicholas, Veronica Kurtz, Austin, Adam, Ashley Kurtz, Jonathan Kurtz, Miranda, Jeremy Stickling, Dakota, Samantha Steensma; sisters, Dorothy Huskies, Luverne and Mildred Robinson, Norfolk, VA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marlene in 1998, infant daughter Paula in 1972 and a sister Erna Tofteland
