Sparklers in arson at SL video store

Three children arrested

Shortly fter 11 p.m. Friday, the Storm Lake Police and Fire Department were dispatched to the Video Warehouse Store located at 714 Lake Avenue after a fire had broken out.

Employees of the store had extinguished the fire as police and firefighters arrived.

An investigation determined that three subjects had inserted lit sparklers into the video return slot of the east side of the business. The sparklers started a fire in the building while employees of the business were in a back room. An employee of the theater that is located next to the video Warehouse saw items burning inside of the business and called 911. The employee pounded on the door of the Video Warehouse to alert staff inside to the fire.

Employees inside the video store were able to extinguish the fire prior to it spreading. Damage is listed at minimal.

Police put out an area broadcast in order to locate the three suspect.s. Police located two juvenile suspects at a residence located at 1409 North Seneca Street, Apartment #44. A third suspect was located and arrested at a residence located at 911 Northwestern Drive.

Police charged the following with Arson 1st Degree (a class B felony): Justin Antram, age 12; Luis Rodriguez, 11; and Martin Guillen, 12, all of Storm Lake.

All three juveniles were transported to the Youth Detention Facility in Cherokee, pending a court date.
