SL girls can't hand Estherville first conference loss

The first place team in the Lakes Conference kept its unbeaten mark intact.

Estherville made it 13 wins without a loss in the league as it scired three runs in the first inning and used a five-run fourth inning to hand Storm Lake a 12-2 defeat on Tuesday night at Estherville.

The Midgets tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning to end the game by the 10-run rule.

Storm Lake managed six hits against winning pitcher Emily Bruns. Billie Blanchard had a pair of singles and drove in a run. Stacy Schmidt delivered an RBI single as well.

Trish Halder, Mel Fisher and Jenny Woodford each had a single.

Anna Paulsen suffered the loss. She allowed 12 hits, eight earned runs, walked three and struck out two.

Storm Lake is now 8-5 in the league and 21-13 overall.

‰ Storm Lake won the junior varsity game 3-2. Erin Anderson was the winning pitcher. She allowed six hits, no earned runs, walked two and struck out two.

Storm Lake had seven hits in the game. Ty Zimmerman drove in the go-ahead run with a double. Jess Overturf had an RBI double and also singled. Amy Sennert delivered an RBI single.

Sam Evans, Becca Anspach and Kiley Stavnes each had a hit for the Tornadoes, who are now 12-6 overall.

Storm Lake freshmen

Storm Lake concluded its season by dropping a doubleheader to LeMars on Wednesday. LeMars won the first game 4-1 and the nightcap 7-4. Storm Lake, which finished 12-7-1 overall, committed five errors in the first game, allowing four runs to score. Dianna Lai had the only Tornado hit. Erin Anderson allowed three hits, no earned runs and struck out seven.

LeMars scored five runs in the final inning to erase a 4-2 Storm Lake lead. Heidi Hammen, Kristan Erskine, Ali Brashears, Lai and Alyssa Enns each had a hit. Anderson drove in a run. Hammen took the loss, allowing seven hits and striking out four.
