Funeral services for Alice Halverson, 86, of Sioux Rapids, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 6, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, with Pastor Sanford Sill officiating. Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery, Linn Grove. Sliefert Redig Funeral Home was in charged of arrangements.
Alice died Monday, July 1, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Alice June Haroldson was born January 6, 1916, the daughter of Helmer and Mary (Grodahl) Haroldson near Rembrandt. She graduated from the Rembrandt High School in 1934. Alice then attended Augustana College for two years for Elementary Education. She taught first and second grade at High View School. On May 21, 1939, Alice married Donald Leslie Halverson at the Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Church north of Rembrandt. Alice and Don lived on the Halverson family farm south of Linn Grove, farmed in Iowa and Minnesota before moving into Sioux Rapids in 1977. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, and served as Sunday School Superintendent. Alice enjoyed music, square dancing, sewing, gardening, baking, farming with her husband, and reviewing family genealogy. She loved her family and having company.
Preceding Alice in death were her parents; husband Donald on August 9, 1984, one granddaughter, Stacy Maupins; one sister, Esther Roberts; three brothers, Edward, Curtis, and Paul Haroldson.
Survivors include five children, Merlin and his wife Judith Halverson of Lawrence, KA, Helen and her husband Don Beneke of Pocahontas, DeeAnn and her husband Dean Maupins of Jackson, TN, Robert and his wife Cynthia Halverson of Peoria, IL, and Donald Halverson of Sioux Rapids. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, Allison and husband Steve Larson, Michael and wife Annette Falor, Cameron and husband Walt Jones, Matthew Beneke, Lorann Halverson, Eric Halverson, Matthew Alwan, Stephanie Alwan, Benjamin Halverson, Elizabeth Halverson, Matthew Alwan, Stephanie Alwan, Benjamin Halverson, Elizabeth Halverson, Todd Maupins; two great-grandchildren, Caitlin Maupins and Soren Larson; one sister, Norma Siefken of Sioux Rapids; one brother, Ralph and his wife Barbara Haroldson of Dallas TX; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Haroldson of Spencer and Lois Haroldson of Linn Grove, and nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
