City updates citizens on street improvement projects

Monday, July 8, 2002

The City of Storm Lake would like to update citizens on the progress of the current street improvement projects.

Traffic can now use 10th Street to access Wal-mart and HyVee and the east side businesses between 10th and 12 Street on Lake Avenue. On Monday, July 8, the 12th Street intersection will be closed and no longer available for access to the Walmart - HyVee area. Be aware that North Lake Avenue is not a through street. The main detour during the construction for through traffic remains Seneca Street as signed.

On Monday, July 8, the contractor will begin the final stage of the North Lake Avenue construction. The intersections of 8th and 9th Street and 12th Street will be closed. The concrete pavement will begin to be removed on the remaining portions on the street. Water line work will continue to the North through the 12th Street intersection.

Paving will be done on Shoreway Road from Larchwood to Northwestern on Tuesday, July 9. The contractor will also work on the excavation and subgrade preparation on West 4th.

During this construction process the City of Storm Lake encourages citizens who have to travel in these areas to use caution. Citizens trying to get to business on North Lake Avenue are encouraged to use the marked detour route of Seneca from East Milwaukee to 13th Street and 13th Street to North Lake Avenue. Citizens should also be advised that the intersection of North Lake Avenue and 13th Street is a 4-way stop.

The City of Storm Lake would like to thank citizens and visitors to our community for their patience and cooperation during this project. The City of Storm Lake apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
