SL trims E-Hawks behind Halder
Trish Halder took a one-hit shutout into the seventh inning and finished with a two-hitter in leading Storm Lake to a 2-1 victory over Emmetsburg in a Lakes Conference game on Monday night at Emmetsburg.
Halder gave up a triple and a run in the seventh inning after blanking the E-Hawks through the first six innings.
Halder allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out four.
Storm Lake scored both of its runs in the second inning. Mel Fisher walked and pinch-runner Becca Anspach later scored on a single by Jenny Woodford. Chelsea Anderson followed with a single to score Woodford.
Halder had Storm Lake's other hit - a single.
Storm Lake is now 8-4 in the league and 21-12 overall.
Storm Lake won the JV game 8-1. Erin Anderson got the win. She allowed two hits, one earned run, walked four and struck out one.
Kiley Stavnes had three singles and one RBI. C.J. Woodford delivered an RBI single, as did Jess Overturf. Becca Anspach had a two-run single. Sam Evans added a single for Storm Lake, now 11-6 overall.
Storm Lake Junior Varsity
Storm Lake won three of four games in the Tornado Classic played last weekend at the Field of Dreams.
Storm Lake beat Algona 11-7 in the first game. Erin Anderson was the winning pitcher. She allowed three hits, three earned runs, walked two and struck out two.
Kiley Stavnes and Jess Overturf each had two singles and one RBI. C.J. Woodford also had two singles. Amy Sennert had a two-run double, Becca Anspach a two-run single, and Heidi Hammen added an RBI single.
Storm Lake beat Carroll Kuemper 5-1. Hammen was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and no earned runs. Sennert had two singles and an RBI. Kristan Erskine and Ty Zimmerman each had an RBI single.
Storm Lake knocked off Odebolt-Arthur 5-4. Anderson was the winning pitcher. She allowed five hits and two earned runs and struck out three.
Zimmerman belted a two-run triple and Woodford had a double. Hammen's sacrifice bunt scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Storm Lake fell to Okoboji 8-3. Hammen suffered the loss, allowing four hits and three earned runs. Anderson gave up four hits and two earned runs in relief.
Woodford had an RBI single for the Tornadoes, now 10-6. Sennert added a single.
Storm Lake freshmen
Storm Lake dropped a doubleheader to Emmetsburg on Monday, falling 10-0 and 6-4.
Storm Lake managed only three hits in the first game - singles by Heidi Hammen, Erin Anderson and Amanda Dose. Anderson took the loss. She gave up 10 hits, walked one and struck out four.
Storm Lake had eight hits in the nightcap. Anderson, Hammen, Ty Zimmerman and Ali Brashears all had two hits apiece. Brashears also drove in two runs.
Hammen took the loss. She allowed six hits, walked six and struck out four.
Storm Lake plays its final games of the season today when it hosts LeMars.
