Newell-Fonda romps past Storm Lake St. Mary's

Amanda Devereaux went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, scored three runs and drove in three runs to help power Newell-Fonda to a 12-2 victory over Storm Lake St. Mary's in a Northwest Conference game last Friday night in Storm Lake.

The Mustangs collected 14 hits in the game against losing pitcher Maddie Rust. Alicia Tiedeman had two hits and drove in two runs.

Emily Koster added two hits, scored two runs, and drove in one run. Tara Soll was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kristen Culp added an RBI single.

Ashley Hetrick picked up the win. She allowed two runs on four hits and struck out one over five innings. Hetrick is now 16-4 on the season.

"The key to the game was solid hitting up and down the lineup," Newell-Fonda coach Dick Jungers said. "St. Mary's had to try and field some very difficult plays because of the solid hitting."

Newell-Fonda improved to 12-1 in the league and 19-6 overall.

River Valley 4

Steph Phelps went 3-for-4 at the plate and scattered five hits on the mound to help lead Galva-Holstein to a Maple Valley Conference victory over River Valley last Friday night at Cushing.

Galva-Holstein used a four-run fourth inning to take control of the game. Stacey Todd singled and Kelli Beyer doubled before Jenni Joslin stroked a double to score both runners. Two more runs scored on a single and an error off the bat of Cassy Stines.

The Pirates received a pair of doubles from Beyer and a two hits from Joslin.

Phelps took a shutout into the bottom of the sixth inning when the Wolverines scored two runs in that frame and tacked on two more in the seventh inning. Phelps allowed three earned runs, walked one and struck out six.

Galva-Holstein improved to 5-5 in the league and 12-11 overall.
