Mildred Bartels, age 94, died on June 27, 2002 at the Newell Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral Services were Monday July 1, 2002 at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Albert City.
Mildred Ann Patton was born the daughter of John and Fannie (Culp) Patton on December 6, 1907 at Paullina. She received her early education from Paullina, later graduating from Britt High School.
She was united in marriage to William Ellis Merry on November 11, 1927 in Primghar. Mildred later married Edward Bartels on July 9, 1949 in Newell.
Mildred was the organist for St. John Lutheran Church for seventeen years. She was involved in many clubs including: Happy Homemakers Club, Community Club, Senior Citizens at Albert City and the St. John Ladies Aid.
Mildred loved and enjoyed her family, she liked to travel, music was her avocation, and she took pride in playing the piano.
She is survived by her children: Wendall Merry of Whittier, CA, Billie Ann and her husband Fred Melohn of Newell, Lowell and his wife Donna Merry of Milford, Virginia and her husband Carl Lewis of Storm Lake and Jeanne Sievers of Storm Lake. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Norma Merry of Primghar; her grandchildren: Ron Merry, Wendy Merry, Craig Melohn, Bruce Melohn, Mark Sievers, Jill Hansen, Sabrina Lewis, Shelly Tanner, Sandy Kelley, Deb Coleman, Dawn Coleman and Diana Reinders; 45 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a sister, a brother and a grandson Michael William Melohn.
