Homor O. (Bud) Putnam, 82, died Saturday June 22, in Careage Hills Nursing Home, Cherokee following a short illness.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Larrabee United Methodist Church, Larrabee. Reverend Dennis Hopes will officiate. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Alta at a later date. Mr. Putnam's body was cremated. Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee was in charge of arrangements.
Homer was born August 3, 1919 in Albert City to Earl and Jennie (Wendt) Putnam. He attended Coon #1 Rural School and Varina Consolidated School. On December 25, 1940 he married Hazel Ellis in Varina.
They resided on a farm near Albert City, until 1968 when the family moved to Cherokee and "Bud" was employed with France Grain and Feed. They lived in Larrabee, from 1980 to 1996 when they returned to Cherokee.
He was a member of the Larrabee United Methodist Church and the Blue Water Sam's camping group. He had been a resident of Careage Hills Nursing Home since 1998.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Roger Putnam and his wife, Sandy of Everly, Jim Putnam and his wife, Marji of Larrabee, John Putman and his wife Joyce of Sutherland; three daughters, Trudie Nord, and her husband, Ken of Storm Lake, Peggy Putnam of Aurelia, Polly Jansen, and her husband Mike of Cherokee; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister (Hazel Kidder), one brother (Milton Putnam), two grandsons, Jared Jansen and Tom Baldwin.
