Vivian McCorkle, 87 of Sac City, died Saturday, June 22 at Park View Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 26, at United Methodist Church in Sac City with Reverend Dean McPherson officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Sac City. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Vivian was born January 28, 1915 in Sac City, the daughter of Oscar and Anna (Pearson) Olson. She graduated from Sac City High School.
Vivian married Paul McCorkle on October 12, 1933 in Council Bluffs. They made their home in Sac City. The couple had two children, Shirley and Jack. After raising her children she attended and graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. She taught kindergarten in Lytton for 23 1/2 years and was nominated for Iowa Teacher of the Year in 1977. She was an Inductee to the Teacher's Hall of Fame in 1997 and Sac Community School Hall of Fame Inductee in 1998.
Vivian was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sac City. She was very active in several Sac City Civic Organizations and also at Buena Vista University. She served on the Board of Trustees at B.V.U. for many years and received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from B.V.U. in 1993.
Vivian and Paul enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to have visited all parts of the world.
Survivors include her husband Paul; daughter Shirley Bartlett of Houston, TX; son Jack McCorkle and his wife Claudia of Reddington Beach, FL; four grandchildren and four great-grand children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Lawrence and Vern; and three sisters: Fern, Florence and Gladys.
