Funeral Services for Forrest F. Hickman, 82, of Iowa City, formerly of Rembrandt and Storm Lake, was Tuesday, May 14, at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation in Iowa City, with Reverend Dwight DuBois officiating.
Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Gay and Ciha Funeral Home
Forrest was born on June 9, 1919 in Rembrandt, the only child of William and Lillie Kemp Hickman. He grew up and was educated there graduating from Rembrandt High School in 1936. Mr. Hickman graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, in 1941, and then entered the US Armed Forces. He served 54 months in during World War II. He married Vivian Tuttle on June 3, 1944 in Storm Lake. He returned to Iowa and spent a year in secondary education before moving to Ames to pursue a degree in poultry husbandry, graduating in 1948. After a number of years in the poultry business, he returned to teaching, first at Dunkerton, then after moving to Iowa City, he taught at City High School where he was a science teacher from 1965 to 1983. He received a master's degree in Science Education from the University of Iowa in 1967. Mr. Hickman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on several boards over the last 35 years.
Surviving is his wife Vivian; daughters, Iris and her husband Dean Baird, Stephanie Hickman; son David and his wife, Lynn Strausser; granddaughter Michelle Baird and husband, Gregory Rufenacht; grandsons: Roger Baird, Jon Hickman and Joel Hickman; granddaughter, Jeanette Hickman; great-grandsons: Matthew Rufenacht and Nicholas Rufenacht.
