Representatives from throughout Buena Vista County have initiated the process of crafting an economic vision statement for the county, according to Edean Murray, Chair of the Storm Lake Area Development Corporation (SLADC) which has instigated the effort, Murray said, "We are excited about the group that has agreed to take on this challenge. The mix of the group represents rural and urban, young and old, different diversities and different levels of prior involvement in community activities ensuring us of a finished product that should appropriately reflect an economic development vision for our diverse county." She said the group recently met and, under the guidance of Frank Spillers, Rural Development Coordinator for the USDA, looked at leadership development and how it will help guide the group through the process.
Chris Nolte, SLADC CEO, said, "Almost all of the communities have agreed to host the group for a meeting over the next few months. This is an exciting part of the program as the group will have the opportunity to find out about our neighboring communities and help us all empathize with the challenges facing our county.
"A similar approach has been successfully implemented by the BV County Convention and Visitors Bureau as they have rotated their meetings around the county to familiarize themselves with the opportunities the county has to offer."
According to Nolte the meetings are scheduled to begin at about 4:30 with a community tour followed by a meal which is then followed by a work session. Each community is to determine a topic that will be addressed in their community with Spillers and Nolte working to find resources to address the individual topics.
