Six home runs help N-F pick up road win over Bulldogs in five innings
Starting pitcher Kyle Stauter hit three home runs, including a grand slam, and Newell-Fonda batters sprayed 23 hits as the Mustangs defeated Aurelia, 31-7, at Aurelia on Monday night.
Stauter had a career night at the plate, as he hit a grand slam, a three-run home run, a solo roundtripper and a single to collect eight RBI on the evening. Brother Matt Stauter had four RBI with a double and two singles, while Jason Ripke, Blake Rieman and Beau Artist each had home runs of their own in the win.
Kyle Stauter also shut down the Bulldog bats in the three innings he pitched, allowing only one run on three hits. Matt Stauter pitched the final two innings and allowed six runs, including a three-run home run by Aurelia starting pitcher Heath Brecher.
Newell-Fonda jumped on the Bulldogs early, building a 14-0 lead after the first inning, and stretched that advantage to 24-0 after the second frame. Every Mustang who batted in the game collected at least one hit, while Jared Neppl, who had two singles, was the only Newell-Fonda player who did not have a run batted in.
The win pushes Newell-Fonda's record to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in Northwest Conference play. The Mustangs will next play tomorrow evening on the road against Albert City-Truesdale.
Aurelia will also be on the road tomorrow night, as they will travel to Sac City.
