Sheriff response

The worst times often give evidence of the best work. Buena Vista County Sheriff Chuck Eddy and his staff, as well as the agencies working with him, deserve praise for their handling of the discarded baby case this past week.

Eddy has handled the case with the proper mix of professionalism and humanity, openness and dignity.

He has made certain that the necessary information has gotten to a general public struggling to understand how such an incident could happen, but he has done so without allowing the dialogue to become sensationalized, ghoulish or a media circus.

We would never want to see a local law enforcement leader have to be tested under these kind of tragic circumstances. But once again, it is comforting to know that when the unthinkable happens, our local sheriff and police will be at their best in doing all they can.

Thank you, BV County Sheriff's Department.
