Cherokee Rodeo earns triple crown of awards

The 36th Annual Cherokee Chamber Of Commerce PRCA Rodeo ranks in an elite group of Rodeo's on the PRCA circuit.

This year the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce PRCA Rodeo has been tagged by the US Smokeless Tobacco Co. to participate in their Championship Awards, Wrangler has named it a Wrangler Circuit Series Rodeo and Dodge has named it a Dodge Series Rodeo. This triple crown of awards makes this Rodeo one to draw big name rodeo stars to compete. This honor bestowed on the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce PRCA Rodeo affords the participants the opportunity to accumulate points for circuit and national award dollars, to increase their prize winnings.

This year's Cherokee Chamber of Commerce PRCA Rodeo will hold three exciting performances to be held at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds, just south of Cherokee May 31 kicks off the competition with an 8 p.m. performance with a Dance to follow at the VFW Club. Saturday at 8 a.m. the Iowa Ranch Horse Show begins, the 36th Annual Cherokee Chamber of Commerce PRCA Rodeo will host a large parade beginning at 4 p.m. with the Cherokee Fire Department as the parade marshals of this years patriot celebration. Sunday will conclude the competition with a 2 p.m. matinee performance.

Butch Lehmkuler, a five time PRCA "Clown of the Year" will be entertaining the crowd and keeping the cowboys out of harms way. Butch has many years of Clown expertise and will add a great deal to the Rodeo experience. Ryan Brown will also be out in the arena doing battle with those angry bulls. Ryan's ten years of experience with angry bovine's makes him a cowboys "best friend" in the arena. Saving lives and entertainment are the clown's motto.

Jerry Wayne Olson and his Palomino "Classical Dude" will provide the entertainment spectators will be amazed as man and horse work together to provide a show that is sure to please young and old alike.

* Make it and Take it Craft for the children (free)

* Mechanical Bull will be on hand for everyone to try their luck at riding a bull-This will have a charge of $3.

* Miniature Horse display - Merleen Hanson and her Minis from Cherokee

Games (no charge to play) "Wild West Personalities", Local merchants will be dressed up for people to guess identity and winner will be announced.
