Elmer J. Jones died on Monday May 20, 2002 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center following a long illness.
Funeral service was on Friday, May 24 at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church with Reverend Ken Bell officiating. Burial was in the Storm Lake Cemetery.
Elmer J. Jones was born to the union of William and Rella (Herrick) Jones on May 31, 1921 in Greenfield, Iowa. He received his education from Greenfield Public Schools graduating with the Class of 1939.
On December 31, 1943 Elmer was united in marriage to Marilyn Tracy in Des Moines. They were blessed with one child, Richard.
Elmer served in the United States Army honorably during WWII. He entered the Army on June 4, 1942 at Fort Des Moines and was later discharged on January 3, 1946 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Elmer was a life-long member of the VFW.
He worked at Hygrade for 30 years before he retired in 1981 when the plant closed.
Elmer's family includes his wife Marilyn, Alta; his son Richard and his wife Arlis, Scottsdale, AZ.; and two granddaughters, Jackie Jones and Angella Jones both of Scottsdale. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Bill Tracy and his wife Betty of Greenfield, along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and one sister.
