Highlights Arts season
The Storm Lake Area Arts Council has kicked off the annual patron drive. Each year the organization attempts to raise up to $15,000 to pay for their upcoming season as well as the other causes of the group.
A tentative "On the Town" season has been created with events from September 2002 through May 2003. Tops on that list is a magic act the likes of which has never been seen in Storm Lake.
"The Spencers and their Theater of Illusion" will amaze with their act which includes Houdini-like escapes, special effects and cutting edge illusions. Crowd participation makes "The Spencers" an act one doesn't want to miss. The show is being planned for April 2003.
Plans are also being made for an appearance for Psalms Gospel Singing Group. They will entertain and educate at Diversity Day at Storm Lake High and follow up with a concert in the evening.
"The Nutcracker," featuring local children and adults, will take place around Christmas time and plans are underway for a local production of The Diary of Ann Frank.
These are just a few of the plans this year for the Arts Council. Donations also support community wide events, such as RAGBRAI's 2001 visit, the Tai Dam New Year event, Living History Outreach program for Storm Lake Schools and live music at Abner Bell's.
Everyone is invited to become a Storm Lake Area Arts Council patron. Those donating $150 or more receive family tickets to all Arts Council events, while those donating $50 receive two tickets to the event of their choice.
