The Buena Vista Fair Queen contest is putting out the call for young women who would like to wear the crown and represent their community.
"Last year we only had a few girls apply. This time, we would like to have many more involved, and hopefully at least one person to represent every town in the county," said organizer Amy Meyer.
Candidates should be age 16-21, and be residents of Buena Vista County. The deadline for applications is May 6. The crowning ceremony is a culminating part of the annual fair, taking place this year on Sunday, June 23. The winner will have the option of advancing into Iowa State Fair competition in August.
"Because the fair is being held earlier this year, we have a short time to reach the potential candidates and get them involved," Meyer said. "The contestants do not have to be in 4-H, but should be active in their communties. We also like to make sure we get them involved in the fair in many ways, and the competitors in the past have come away having a real good time."
Anyone who wishes to be a candidate, or wanting more information, should contact Meyer at 284-1007.
