Storm Lake celebrates scholars

Thursday, April 18, 2002

Citing the importance of scholarship support for continuing education, Mayor Jon Kruse proclaimed May as National Scholarship Month.

Surrounding the mayor are student and adult members of the Storm Lake Dollars for Scholars board of directors, including, sitting, Matt McKinney, Mayor Kruse and Bill Mach. Second row, Beth Hansen, Kelly Keenan and Sam Becker. Back row, Jane Fortier, Bev Mach, Shelia Neuroth, Sue Vaudt and Jennifer Thompson. Now in its fifth year, National Scholarship Month is a function of the Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America, the parent organization of 1,030 grassroots scholarship foundations in 39 states and the District of Columbia. These local "Dollars for Scholars" chapters raise funds and provide financial support to local students seeking post-secondary education. The local chapter will be awarding $31,000 in scholarships at its awards ceremony on Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at Storm Lake High School. The public is invited.
