The Green Team, a kid's garden club, will meet at the prairie Pedlar again this summer to develop garden skills and enjoy nature crafts, flower fun, and outdoor games.
Every Wednesday from 8:30 - 11 a.m., children eight years old and older are invited to participate. The registration format allows for flexibility with summer schedules: swimming lessons, scouts, Bible School, camps, etc. The cost for each session is $5 per child. Each participant commits to a minimum of four sessions for a fee of $20, selecting the dates and topics of their own choosing. Students are welcome to sign up for more than four sessions if desired, adding $5 for each additional date to cover costs of supplies for their take home project as well as a mid-morning snack.
A variety of nature projects will be completed throughout the summer, including making nesting boxes, fruit feeders, stepping stones, and bug jars. Bubble wand plant stakes, twig trellises, herbal heart wreaths, and jewelry from petals are additional projects to be designed. In addition, fresh flower arrangements, wall weavings, potpourri, and a herb and spice wreath will be crafted. Special events include a Garden Tea Party, a Bubble Contest, a Bug search, flower games and scavenger hunts. Time will also be spent each morning "practicing" simple garden skills that are essential to the success of any gardening experience: planting, deadheading, mulching, watering, weeding, and harvesting.
Pre-registration is required and must be completed by May 17. For a detailed schedule of events and activities, and an application form contact Jane Hogue at the Prairie Pedlar in rural Odebolt, 712-668-4840.
