Willard F. "Bud" Olson, age 82, of Galva, died Friday, April 5, 2002 at the Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, after complications from surgery.
The funeral service was held Monday, April 8th at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Galva with the Reverend Roger Maize officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Galva American Legion was in Galva Township East Cemetery.
Willard F. Olson was born October 8, 1919, in Cushing, Iowa, the son of William and Viola (Hollander) Olson. He attended school in Holstein and graduated from the Holstein High School in 1938.
Bud entered the United States Army on January 4, 1942 in Des Moines.
He served in the Pacific Theatre. He received an Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, 6 overseas bars, and a Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal for the battle at East Mandates. He was honorably discharged on September 10, 1945 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
On November 20, 1945, he was married to Regina Adams, at Charter Oak, Iowa.
Bud was employed by Standard Oil for 25 years. He also worked for Therma Gas, Toloma Gas, and Rod's Fertilizer. He was a member of the Galva Volunteer Fire Department, served on the Galva City Council, and was a past mayor. His pleasures were playing cards with friends, fishing, and spending time with family.
Bud's family includes his wife Regina, Galva; two sons: Rick and his wife Jeanie, Loveland, CO, Rusty and his wife Vicky, Columbia, MO; one daughter, RoxAnne and her husband Jon Jensen, Galva; six grandchildren: Eric Olson and his fiancÚ Alicia Perry, Loveland, CO, Mike and his wife Jamie Olson, Baraboo, WI, and Mandi Olson and Maas Hinz, Chester, England, Nathan and his wife Nancy Jensen, Storm Lake, Nick Jensen, Iowa City, and Olivia Jensen, Galva; and a sister LouAnn and her husband Virgil Paulsen.
Proceeding Bud in death were his parents, two sisters, Louella Rockwell and Louetta Lauer, and one brother, Wendell Olson.
