Robbie Carlson cooks up beef for a Doritos casserole during the 4-H Pride of Iowa event Sunday at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.
Carlson is a member of the Maple Valley Ag 4-H Club. Deb Overgaard, Pride of Iowa superintendent, emceed the event. A variety of recipes were prepared, and categories included main dish, beverage, breakfast, snack and dessert. All Pride of Iowa entry recipes include an ingredient that is produced in Iowa, such as beef, pork, turkey, lamb, eggs, dairy, oatmeal and strawberries. Participants included from BV Clovers, Allie Bartholomew, Erin Broich, Angie Wells and Sydni Williams; from Maple Valley Ag, Kathleen Arnts, Stephanie Carlson, Ann Curbow and Austin Stuhr; from Newell Achievers, Beth Culp, Rachael Culp and Katlyn Laursen; from Maple Valley Motivators, Hannah Fordyce, Geneva Heschke, Lindsey Rae Peterson and Rebekka Weber. "A special thank you to Deb Overgaard, Methodist Manor, the Iowa Egg Council, BV Cattlemen's Association, BV County Pork Producers, and the parents of these 4-H'ers for making this an enjoyable afternoon," said Jan Lietz, BV County Youth Coordinator.
