Tuesday, March 26, 2002

VERMILLION, S.D. - Paige Havens and Amy Wulfekuhler each collected a second-place finish, and a relay team took fifth to highlight Storm Lake's performance at the Midwest High School Championships indoor track and field meet on Saturday at the Dakota Dome in Vermillion, S.D.

Havens placed second out of 48 competitors in the 400 meters with a time of 1 minute, 2.67 seconds. Wulfekuhler leaped 16 feet, 5 inches to finish second out of 36 participants in the long jump.

The 4x400 relay unit of Morae Youde, Billie Blanchard, Wulfekuhler and Havens placed fifth with a time of 4:29.37. That was their fastest time of the season thus far.

"All the girls again competed strong in their events in tough competition," Storm Lake coach John Brostad said. "Six of our girls were at a music contest and did not go with us to USD."

"Jenny Woodford ran her best split of the year on the 4x200 relay in 30.1 seconds," Brostad added. "Heather Henrich ran three tough races plus competed in the high jump. Nancy Manatham had a solid 1,000 meter race."
