Mrs. Merle Carpenter, 94, of Mallard died Wednesday, March 13, at the West Bend Care Center.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 16, at the Mallard United Methodist Church with Reverend Torger Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Ellington Twp. Cemetery at Mallard.
Merle Medora Albaugh, daughter of Elmer Leroy and Sylvia Elizabeth (Hawk) Albaugh was born September 13, 1907 rural Elkhart. She moved with her family to rural Havelock in 1909. She graduated from Havelock High School in 1925.
On October 25, 1925 she was united in marriage to Avery Wesley Carpenter in Rolfe. After their marriage they lived near West Concord, Minn. In 1929 they moved to rural Havelock Twp., Palo Alto County. In 1944 they moved to the farm they purchased in Nevada Twp., Palo Alto County. They retired from farming and moved to Mallard in 1966. In March 1994 they became residents of the West Bend Care Center. Avery died in August 2000, just two months before they would have celebrated their 75th anniversary.
Merle was a member of the Mallard United Methodist Church, the Mallard Garden Club, the Palo Alto County. Historical Society and the Senior Citizens of both Mallard and Emmetsburg. She enjoyed her large family, raising flowers and making crafts.
Survivors include five daughters, Betty (Mrs. Kenneth Robinson), Everly, Jean (Mrs. Keith Stone), Storm Lake, Cheryl (Mrs. Allen Shaw), Laurens, Marion (Mrs. Gaylord Lewis), Dickens, and Glenda of Mallard; one son, Raymond (Phyllis), Emmetsburg; 31 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virgie Carpenter, Boulder, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Paul; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three sons-in-laws, Kenneth, Keith, and Lee; her parents; two brothers, Howard and Everett; and two sisters, Mamie Higbee and Edith Henderson.
