Leprechaun duo helps 'Jerry's Kids'

Thursday, March 21, 2002

Two Storm Lake Burger King employees have raised more than $400 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association this month by selling green and gold shamrocks to customers.

Ardyce Hanson and Helen Langner have each sold more than 150 shamrocks to Burger King customers this month, with Hanson leaping over the 250-shamrock plateau last week.

The two have sold customers green shamrocks for $1 and gold shamrocks for $5, with all of the proceeds going towards the Muscular Dystrophy Association. An annual event, Burger King employees have sold more than 500 shamrocks so far, and Hanson and Langner have helped sell the bulk of that amount through their efforts.

"It's pretty easy to do, because all we have to do is ask people if they want to buy a shamrock and help Jerry's Kids," Hanson said. "It's rewarding knowing that you're helping out a charity like that that much."

"We've had a good response from customers, and it's been fun to do," Langner said. "It's for a good cause, and it's good to know that we're helping out people by doing this." Shamrocks are also being sold for the MDA at various other businesses across the Storm Lake area.
