No injuries, but Bodholdt office is a total loss after Saturday morning fire.
The heat from the flames was the only thing keeping Storm Lake firefighters thawed as they responded to a raging fire at Bodholdt Plumbing and Heating company early Saturday morning.
The firefighters found the office building at 1806 East Richland Street already fully engulfed in flame when they arrived shortly after 6 a.m. Working in the high winds, blowing snow and sub-zero temperatures of the winter storm last weekend, the department was still able to bring the blaze under control within about 20 minutes of intense work, according to Fire Chief Mike Jones. The fire was completely extinguished and the scene was overhauled by 10 a.m.
Due to weather conditions and the Fire Marshal's Office inability to respond to the scene of Saturday, the Fire Department roped off the scene and returned there on Sunday to complete their investigation. Fire Department investigators along with the State Fire Marshal's Office and an Investigator from the Storm Lake Police Department determined that the fire had started in the attic area of the structure but due to the extensive damage of the structure, the exact cause is undetermined.
The office building is considered a total loss.
No injuries were reported. The Fire Department was on scene for approximately four hours on Saturday and two hours on Sunday.
