Updates from the Storm Lake Police Department and the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office.

ACCIDENTS

On March 1, at 1:52 p.m. an accident occurred at the intersection of Railroad Street and Cayuga Street. A 1997 Ford, driven by Harold Lussman, 75, of 925 Pleasantview Drive, was eastbound in the 200 block of Railroad Street. A 1991 Chevrolet, driven by Agustin Sanchez, 24, of 116 Cayuga Street, was attempting to make a right hand turn onto Railroad Street from Cayuga Street. The Sanchez vehicle spun around on the road and struck the Lussman vehicle. Damage to the vehicles is estimated at $400 for the Lussman vehicle and $0 for the Sanchez vehicle.

On March 1, at 5 p.m., an accident occurred at the intersection of Park Street and Flindt Drive. A 1997 Oldsmobile, driven by Donna Hurley, 31, of 203 Kenzy Street, was making a left turn from Park Street onto Flindt Drive. A 2002 Ford, driven by Jorge Sahagun, 30, of 130 Mae Street, Storm Lake was traveling south on Flindt Drive and could not stop for the yellow light due to road conditions and struck the Hurley vehicle. Damage to the vehicles is estimated at $500 for the Hurley vehicle and $200 for the Sahagun vehicle.

On March 4, at 10 a.m., an accident occurred in the Lakeshore Cafe parking lot, 1520 Lake Avenue. A 1992 Ford, driven by Elizabeth Redig, 74, 1311 East Lakeshore Drive, was backing from a parking spot going north. A 1989 Lincoln, driven by Donald Sievers, 66, Aurelia, was backing from a parking spot going south. The vehicles collided.

Damage was estimated at $800 to the Redig vehicle and none to the Sievers vehicle.

On March 6, at 8:23 a.m., an accident occurred at the intersection of West Milwaukee Avenue and Ontario Street. A 1993 Buick, driven by Ruth Freese, 50, 512 Lincoln Road, was westbound on West Milwaukee Avenue, stopped behind a non-contact vehicle that was stopped to make a left turn onto Ontario Street. A 1992 Plymouth, driven by Diane Fogarty, 38, 209 Seneca Street, also westbound on West Milwaukee Avenue behind the Freese vehicle, struck the rear of the Freese vehicle. Fogarty was charged with Following Too Close and No Insurance. Damage was estimated at $1,400 to the Freese vehicle and $1,000 to the Fogarty vehicle.

On March 4, at 10:55 a.m., an accident occurred in the 100 block of East Railroad Street. A 1980 Chrysler, driven by Rita Rader, 68, 202 Cayuga Street, was stopped westbound at the stop light at the intersection of East Railroad Street and Lake Avenue. A 1998 Honda, driven by Soth Phathaem, 31, 518 East 4th Street, also westbound, was not able to stop in time and struck the Rader vehicle. Phathaem was charged with Fail To Stop Within A Safe and Assured Distance. Damage was estimated at $300 to the Radar vehicle and $2,500 to the Phathaem vehicle.

On March 4, sometime between 7:55 a.m. and 4:20 p.m., a hit and run accident occurred in the Storm Lake High School parking lot, 621 Tornado Drive. A 1992 Ford, owned by Gregoria Gonzalez, 1121 West Milwaukee Avenue, was parked in the parking lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle which left the scene. Damage to the Gonzalez vehicle was estimated at $700.

VANDALISM

On March 4, Jack Anderson, 705 Vestal Street, reported damage to a wooden fence at his residence sometime between February 28 and March 4. Damage to the fence was estimated at $100.

THEFT

On March 4, the manager of Bakers Court, 1605 West Milwaukee Avenue, reported a theft of cash estimated at $350 from the restaurant sometime between March 2 and March 3.
