Funeral services were held for Lyla M. Nixon, 96, of Fonda, at the United Church of Christ on Wednesday, March 6, with the Pastor John Pinkerman officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Cemetery, Fonda. Mahaney Funeral Home, Fonda, was in charge of arrangements.
Lyla died Sunday, March 3, at the Fonda Nursing and Rehab Center in Fonda.
Lyla Gottfried was born March 20, 1905, in Fonda. She graduated from Fonda Community High School and Fort Dodge Business College. She worked as a receptionist for a doctor in Fort Dodge and then resided in Fonda the rest of her life. She married Gordon Nixon on April 6, 1931, at Fonda. She taught piano and was the church organist for many years. She was an active member of the United Church of Christ and former member of Odd Fellows and Rebecah Lodge and was past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, all in Fonda.
Survivors include daughters, Jean Nixon, Storm Lake, and Carole Peterson and husband William, Waterloo; sons, Bryce Nixon and wife Janet; and Ross Nixon and wife Kathy, all of Ankeny; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, and brother Lester Gottfried.
