Updates from the Storm Lake Police Department and the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office.


On Thursday, Feb. 20, 2002, Jackie Tripp, Schaller, reported the theft of her wallet from Pizza Hut, 115 East Milwaukee Ave., while she was working there. Items stolen consisted of a wallet, identification cards and money. The items were valued at $311.

On Feb. 22, 2002, the manager of Bomgaars, 1628 Lake Ave. in Storm Lake, reported the theft of 100 wooden pallets from their business lot sometime between Feb. 19 and Feb. 22. Estimated value of the pallets was $400.

On Feb. 23, 2002, Irma Castro-Flores, Storm Lake, reported a burglary to her residence. Stolen were four gold chains with a golden medallion on each chain. Estimated value of the jewelry was $1,000. Also stolen was $650 in cash.


On Feb. 21, 2002, at an unknown time a vehicle was struck by another vehicle. A 1996 Dodge, owned by Lynn Huntzicker, 510 E. 6th St., was struck on the driver's side by an unknown vehicle at an unknown location. Damage to the car is estimated at $700.

On Feb. 22, at 11:45 a.m. an accident occurred in the Fareway parking lot, 404 E. 7th St. A 1995 Ford, driven by Shirley Rohlf, 63, of Odebolt, was backing east from a parking spot. A 1986 Cadillac, driven by Lucille Hartman, 83, of Storm Lake, was traveling south in the parking lot and struck the Rohlf vehicle. Damage is estimated at $50 for the Rohlf vehicle and $600 for the Hartman vehicle.

On Feb. 16, at 8:39 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Russell Street and Flindt. After establishing him as the driver, officers have charged Juan Antonio Diaz-Meraz, 27, of Storm Lake, with No Drivers License, False Report to Police, and Interference with Official Acts.
