On the morning of Saturday, February 16, at approximately 2:15 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the 600 Block of West 9th Street in reference to a reported assault Friday evening.
Police met with a 73-year-old female victim who advised that on Friday night her 49-year-old son entered her residence and physically assaulted her and her house cat.
The suspect was identified as Roy Rathke, 49, of Storm Lake. Police located Rathke at his residence on West 9th Street. Police arrested Rathke and upon taking him into custody he attempted to resist officers. Rathke was subdued after a brief struggle.
Storm Lake Police transported Rathke to the Buena Vista County Jail where he was charged with Burglary 2nd Degree (class C felony) and Interference with Official Acts (simple misdemeanor). Rathke was booked into the jail on $13,325 cash bond.
There was no serious injuries reported.
