Blaze destroys mobile home in SL, no injuries

On the morning of Saturday, February 16, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in residence at 500 A West 9th Street.

Firefighters they observed a mobile home and attached garage fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were advised that all occupants of the residence were outside and safe.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and upon doing so entered what was left of the structure to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Investigators from the Storm Lake Police Department and the State Fire Marshals Office also responded and assisted in investigating the scene of the fire.

The investigation determined that the cause of the fire was an overheated receptacle box on a wall in a bedroom.

The mobile home is considered a total loss. A van that was located in the garage of the mobile home was seriously damaged.

The owner of the mobile home is Bladimar Sanchez.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 7.5 hours.

No injuries were reported.

On the morning of Saturday, February 16, at approximately 11:16 a.m., the Storm Lake Police took a report from a subject who advised that a person had used his name and Social Security number to obtain gas service from Alliant Energy at a residence located at 500A West 9th Street.

The home is reportedly owned by Bladimir Iram Sanchez-Gonzalez, 25, of Edinburg, Texas.

The Police Department located Gonzalez and determined that he did use the victim's name and Social Security number to access gas service in May of 2000.

Storm Lake Police arrested Gonzalez and charged him with Identity Theft (class D felony).

He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on $9,750 cash bond.
