Poets' Corner to meet at Witter Gallery

The Poets' Corner literary discussion group will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Witter Gallery. This month's meeting will be led by Iva Hyams on the subject of "Humor in Poetry or Poetry in Humor?" Feel free to bring a sack lunch and come to the gallery for thought provoking conversation!

Before or after the meeting, participants may take the opportunity to view the current exhibition at the Witter Gallery. On February 2-28 the gallery is pleased to host "Dreams and Landscapes", mixed media paintings by Jean Petsch. The show is being sponsored by Early Builders, Inc.

The Poets' Corner meets the third Tuesday of each month and anyone who has an interest in poetry is welcome to attend. If you would like more details about this discussion group, or any gallery event, please call the gallery at 712-732-3400.

Omelette breakfast set in Rembrandt

The Rembrandt Fire Department is hosing an omelette breakfast on Sunday, Feb. 24, at the new fire station. The breakfast is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Money raised will be used to help complete interior work on the fire station, the construction of which has been driven by local donations and fundraisers.

Safely receives top piano honors

Matthew Safley, A Storm Lake High School Junior, was named the Outstanding Performer, at the Iowa High School Music Association Piano Contest held February 9 at Buena Vista University, Storm Lake. Playing Schumann's "Aufschwung" he garnered a perfect score from the judge who at the end of the day could name on participant as "Outstanding Performer."

Matthew is the son of Bill and Holli Safley, Peterson, and a piano student of Suzanne Winterhof, Aurelia.

SL Christian Women's Club to meet

Storm Lake Christian Women's Club will have a Spring Style Show at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on February 21, at 12:30 p.m., sponsored by Bomgaars. All gals are invited. Cost will be $7 for the catered lunch. Speaker is Karen Tosterud of Vermillion featuring "Change, Looking For That Perfect Home." A free nursery is provided.
