SL students to compete in honor band festival

Nineteen Storm Lake students are among 25 high school and middle school students participating in the 21st Annual Honor Band Festival at Buena Vista University on Saturday, February 23.

The grand finale concert will be held at 6:30 p.m., in Schaller Memorial Chapel of the BVU campus, and is open to the public, free of charge.

Members from Storm Lake St. Mary's High School honor band are Bridget Cullen, flute 2; Rebecca Wilson, flute 2; Roseanne Wolf, clarinet 2; and Sam Becker, trombone 2. Storm Lake St. Mary's Middle School honor band participants are Becky Lenhard, flute 2; Philip Becker, trumpet 2; and Luke Vander Woude, trumpet 2.

Storm Lake High School honor band participants are Stacy Schmidt, alto saxophone; Matthew Hoskins, percussion; and Ben Wells, percussion. Members from Storm Lake Middle School honor band are Lisa Burnside, bassoon; Nick Crippin, clarinet 1; Ashley Solem, clarinet 2; Adrian Dimas, clarinet 3; Kim Thayer, clarinet 3; Cory Haisch, bass clarinet; Matt Bowman, tenor saxophone; Philip Andrews, percussion; and Nels Fymbo, percussion. Membership to the middle school honor band (grades seven and eight) and to the high school honor band (grades nine through 12) were selected on the basis of nominations submitted by their high school band directors. Schools participating in this year's festival are from Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota.
