STORM LAKE - Some homecourt advantage. Visiting Wartburg made 26 of 32 free throws, while host Buena Vista was just 3 of 7 as the Iowa Conference-leading Knights held off an upset scare to post a 67-62 win on Tuesday night.
Buena Vista shot 47 percent in the first half to take a 35-34 lead at the break. Wartburg shot just 28 percent in the second half, but thanks to free throw shooting, the Knights were able to outscore the Beavers 33-27 in the second half.
Buena Vista trailed 14-6 in the first half, but used a 16-8 spurt to tie the game at 22-all. The game was tight the rest of the way until Wartburg scored eight unanswered points to take a 62-54 lead with 4:53 remaining. BV got as close as three points the rest of the way.
Amy Meggers had 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Buena Vista, now 5-9 in the league and 9-12 overall. Jessica Jensen added 10 points and four assists. Julie Bloyer grabbed seven rebounds and Jennifer Lange five. Kelli Taylor handed out five assists.
Buena Vista made 28 of 61 field goals for 46 percent. Wartburg was 20 of 58 for 35 percent.
The Beavers entertain Loras and Dubuque Friday and Saturday.
