Tuesday, February 5, 2002

IDA GROVE - Nick Wiley, Dylan Wagener and Pete Harder all won their respective matches by pin, but it wasn't enough as Battle Creek-Ida Grove posted a 42-25 dual victory over Storm Lake on Saturday at Ida Grove.

Storm Lake fell behind 18-0 after the first four matches, but Wiley changed all that with a win by pin in 1 minute, 13 seconds at 119 pounds.

Wagener won by pin in 3:42 at 130 pounds to pull the Tornadoes within 24-12. Harder then won by pin in 3:39 at 135 pounds to make it a 24-18 match.

One match later, Storm Lake's George Romualdo won by decision 10-6 at 145 pounds to cut the deficit to 27-21.

Battle Creek-Ida Grove won the next two matches by pin and by decision before Storm Lake's Jared Ponsor won by major decision 12-0 at 171 pounds.

"Overall, we were happy with our performance," Storm Lake coach Ty Seaman said. "We wrestled well and made adjustments even in the matches we lost. We now have a two-week period to train for the district meet and I'm very confident the kids will make the adjustments they need to make to be ready for the big day."

Storm Lake, now 8-12 overall in duals, wrestles this Saturday in a sectional meet at LeMars.
