IDA GROVE - Nick Wiley, Dylan Wagener and Pete Harder all won their respective matches by pin, but it wasn't enough as Battle Creek-Ida Grove posted a 42-25 dual victory over Storm Lake on Saturday at Ida Grove.
Storm Lake fell behind 18-0 after the first four matches, but Wiley changed all that with a win by pin in 1 minute, 13 seconds at 119 pounds.
Wagener won by pin in 3:42 at 130 pounds to pull the Tornadoes within 24-12. Harder then won by pin in 3:39 at 135 pounds to make it a 24-18 match.
One match later, Storm Lake's George Romualdo won by decision 10-6 at 145 pounds to cut the deficit to 27-21.
Battle Creek-Ida Grove won the next two matches by pin and by decision before Storm Lake's Jared Ponsor won by major decision 12-0 at 171 pounds.
"Overall, we were happy with our performance," Storm Lake coach Ty Seaman said. "We wrestled well and made adjustments even in the matches we lost. We now have a two-week period to train for the district meet and I'm very confident the kids will make the adjustments they need to make to be ready for the big day."
Storm Lake, now 8-12 overall in duals, wrestles this Saturday in a sectional meet at LeMars.
Pocahontas 57, AGH 18
Emmetsburg 72, AGH 6
AGH dropped a pair of duals to the third-ranked team in Class 1A and the second-ranked team in the state in Class 2A last Friday night at Pocahontas.
AGH won three matches against Pocahontas. Jamey Finch won by forfeit at 189, Kelly Kannegieter won by pin in 54 seconds at 215, and Brian Borchers won by pin in 37 seconds at 275.
Borchers won the only match for AGH against Emmetsburg, pinning his opponent in 2:52.
AGH wrestles in a sectional meet this Saturday at Alton.
Storm Lake eighth grade
Adam Kelly, Zach Peterson and Henry Lewis all won both of their matches by pin to help lead the Storm Lake eighth grade in a meet at Aurelia last Friday.
Storm Lake won 12 matches, including 10 by pins. Mark Brown won one match by pin and one by decision, as did Manuel Marquez.
Bryce Beal and Ross Schultz each won a match by pin.
